Dr. Kalyan Shankar Ray

Prof. Kalyan Shankar Ray is the founder Vice-Chancellor of ASBM University and Professor in Banking and Finance. He has been into academic administration for almost a decade and a half having worked earlier for Asian School of Business Management, first as the Chairman of the P. G. Council and then as the Dean. He was also the Member-Secretary of the Board of Governors of Asian School of Business Management.

He was into commercial banking for more than three decades and has worked in different capacities from branch operations to top management. His forte has been development banking for which he had earned many laurels. He was also on the Board of Directors of two Regional Rural Banks – one in Odisha and the other in Madhya Pradesh.

A natural leader, Prof. Ray assumes leadership role wherever he works right from his student days. He takes pleasure in mentoring his team members for their career growth. He also loves guiding and counselling the students.

A research study on Organisational Effectiveness has earned him Doctorate degree in Business Administration from Utkal University. He also holds PG Diploma in Bank Management (PGDBM) awarded by National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM), Pune and a Master degree in Economics.

Prof. Ray edits the ASBM Journal of Management and has been associated with it since 2008. He works as a reviewer for other journals, including the Transnational Journal of Business, published by Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), USA. He had undertaken a research study at NIBM on the mechanism of the Lead Bank Scheme. He was also associated with NIBM in preparing the guidelines for Service Area Approach of Reserve Bank of India. He has published several research papers along with nine books.

He has evaluated doctoral dissertation for Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (formerly Nagpur University). He has worked as an examiner for Indian Institute of Banking and Finance for their Associate Examination and as paper setter for other institutions. He has also served on the Academic Advisory Council of the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad.

Prof. Ray is a voracious reader and is a bibliophile, and relaxes by reading and by listening to Indian classical music.
